T20 World Cup 2021: Aaron Finch getting back in shape after knee surgery

Last month, Finch was ruled out of the rest of the matches against West Indies and Bangladesh due to a knee injury

NEW DELHI According to Cricket Australia, Aaron Finch, Australia's white-ball captain, has had a successful knee operation and is expected to recover in eight to 10 weeks.

According to the report, Finch will also be eligible for the opening games of the next T20 World Cup in October.

Due to a knee injury, Finch was ruled out of the rest of the West Indies and Bangladesh tour last month.

Aaron Finch will be back in around two-months’ time

"His healing is likely to take 8-10 weeks, meaning he should be eligible for the World Cup's opening games in mid-October," Cricket Australia said in a statement, according to ESPNcricinfo.

Finch sustained the injury during practice before the T20 series against the West Indies in St Lucia, which worsened in the series' final game. Matthew Wade captained the Australian team during the Bangladesh series in Finch's absence.

Australia was defeated 4-1 by the hosts in the five-match series. Australia had previously lost the T20I series against the West Indies by the same score.

Finch likely to play in Men's T20 World Cup 2021

The Australian star cricketer is now expected to recover fully well in time before the start of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

Meanwhile, the groupings for the Men's T20 World Cup 2021, hosted by the BCCI in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 17 to November 14, were released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) last month.

In Group 1 of the Super 12s, reigning champions West Indies are paired alongside former champions England, South Africa, and Australia, with two qualifiers from Round 1 joining them, based on team rankings as of March 20, 2021.

Former champions India and Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and the other two qualifiers from Round 1 will make up Group 2.

Pertinently, Australia had never won the T20 World Cup, with their best finish being a runner-up place in 2010 in Barbados, when they lost to England in the final.
