Madhya Pradesh Special Task Force bust a gang running a fake Medical Admission racket
The gang revealed that they have duped over 200 NEET aspirants by promising them admissions to medical colleges.
The Special Task Force of Madhya Pradesh Police has busted a gang that has cheated over 200 victims with the promise of getting admission to different medical colleges across the country. Bhopal STF has arrested two members of the gang from Purnia, Bihar.
According to News18.com, the two gang members arrested are Deepak Kumar and Sandeep Karwariya. From Rs 10,000 to Rs 50 lakh, the gang extorted different amounts from their targets. The gang also has connections with the staffers of numerous medical colleges, said STF officers.
Special Task Force say's 200 Neet aspirants duped
The two members revealed that there are four other members, and they have been committing this fraud since 2013. The members revealed that they have duped over 200 NEET aspirants by promising them admissions to medical colleges.
The group even set up a fictitious Medical Council of India (MCI) website, which sent SMS to the students. The modus operandi of the gang was straightforward. They downloaded data of NEET aspirants and contacted them with offers of admission to big medical colleges.
Hapless victim duped 32 Lakhs
SP, STF Naveen Chowdhary said that the action was taken after a complaint by Mr.Vivek Mishra, a resident of Rewa. Vivek’s son Prateek Mishra had appeared for NEET but could not obtain the cut-off percentage.
Sandeep promised to get Vivek’s son admission to Gandhi Medical College Bhopal through the central pool quota as a career guide. For this, Sandeep obtained cash worth 32 Lakhs.
The STF officers also revealed that Habibganj police earlier arrested Sandeep in a case of forgery in the year 2013. Vivek learned about the fraud when his son’s name did not figure in the GMC admission list. The remaining members of the gang are still at large.
Both the arrested men are engineering graduates and started the fraud business after failing to get a job. The duo on interrogation revealed that they had duped many students from UP, Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Jharkhand, MP, and many more.
The gangs were so subtle in their modus operandi and even took the students to different Medical Colleges where their conmen were deployed and introduced as college officials. The victims have convinced completely, and later the gang sent the students an SMS bearing the name of MCI and extorted money from the family.
The STF also revealed the gang duped several victims who secured admissions on their merit.
But they were made to believe that the admission was obtained because of the help from the gang. The gang also has developed links with the staffers of various medical colleges, said STF officers.
