The US has carried a drone strike in less than 36 hours of the Kabul Airport blast to avenge the death of the 13 American soldiers, the US Department of Defense said in a press release.

The drone strike was carried out against the ‘planner’ of ISIS’s Afghanistan affiliate in the Nangarhar province, the group that claimed responsibility for the Hamid Karzai International Airport blast. As per the press release, the strike was successful, and no civilian casualty was reported. 

“The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties,” said Capt. Bill Urban, the spokesperson of the US Central Command.

US airstrike: avenges the death of its soldiers

According to the recent statements made by the US army officials, one more soldier has succumbed to the injury sustained in the blast, taking the death toll of 13.

“13th service member killed in action. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the families and to the teammates that we have lost. This is a devastating time for these Gold Star families, a title no one wants to hold, but we absolutely hold in the utmost respect,” Deputy Director of the Joint Staff For Regional Operations, Major General Hank Taylor said at the press briefing.

He also confirmed that there was only one attack in the Abbey gate by a suicide bomber. The wounded soldiers were brought back to Ramstein and rushed to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.

Yesterday after the terror attack, President Biden had vowed revenge for killing American soldiers and civilians. “To those who carried out this attack: We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay,” Joe Biden said in a press meet.

Around 200 civilians and 13 US soldiers were killed in the blasts. 18 US soldiers were injured and are brought back to America. Pentagon Secretary John Kirby has raised doubts about the more similar attack on the US base in Afghanistan, according to NDTV.

Evacuation continues amid US airstrike

President Joe Biden assures to continue evacuation process till deadline, 31 August. He said that America will not let terrorists stop the evacuation process. Yesterday, 35 US military aircraft, 29 C-17s, and six C-130s departed with around 8,500 personnel from Kabul.

Along with that additional 4,000 personnel left Kabul for various intermediate staging bases in 54 coalition aircraft. Around 89 flights left Kabul yesterday with 12,500 evacuees approx in a day.

Since the last 24 hours, over 300 Americans were evacuated from Afghanistan, totalling 5,100 US evacuees in all. To date, both America and coalition partners have safely deported 111,000 evacuees.

As part of Operation Allies Refuge, the Defense Department is now increasing its capacity to house up to 50,000 Afghan evacuees on seven different military installations across the United States, the press briefing reads. The evacuees will get medical services, recreational services, essential services in the houses. These services will be provided at Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort McCoy, Wisconsin; Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey; Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico; and Fort Lee, Marine Corps Base Quantico and Fort Pickett, all in Virginia.
