Alarm bells ring as Arctic Ocean ice cap is set to disappear earlier than thought

The adage, ‘Better Late Than Never’ doesn’t seem to be a solution as the climate-conscious world is trying hard to save the Arctic Ocean from heating up. Latest findings warn that the Arctic Ocean's ice cap is set to disappear into oblivion by the 2030s! It was earlier estimated by the IPCC forecast in 2021 that the Arctic Ocean would go devoid of ice at least once by mid-century. But it is actually happening earlier, which is a matter for global concern. What is more worrying is that the date anticipated is actually a decade earlier than what was thought. That also means that however hard the human race tries to hold back carbon pollution, which is the reason for global warming, now, it is too late. Agri-food startup qualifies for UN Accelerator Programme

The startup ecosystem in Kerala is buoyant that ever before, and the arena has been seeing much significant developments of late. The latest on that front is the achievement that an agri-startup from the state has pocketed. A female crocodile, which had been isolated for a long 16-year period, has been found to have borne a bunch of eggs. This discovery has thrown more insights into the phenomenon of ‘virgin birth’, and is the first ever recorded case among crocs. Such a trait of virgin birth also showers much light into its evolutionary origins. As per a report quoting a study on this subject, this trait of evolutionary origins could also lead much findings on the reproductive capabilities of dinosaurs. The virgin birth phenomenon was discovered in an American crocodile, which had been taken into captivity back in the year 2012. The crocodile was a 2-year-old when it was picked up and housed in an enclosure in Costa Rica’s Parque Reptilandia. Skilling women for tourism jobs: New courses to get underway

In a path-breaking initiative that would provide a shot in the arm for efforts aimed at empowering women, the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS), an autonomous institution under the Department of Tourism, is seeking to mould skilled women professionals to handle a wide range of jobs in the fast-expanding tourism sector. As part of the initiative, KITTS will kickstart six courses and 13 training programmes exclusively for women. Kerala’s Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas said around 600 job opportunities are expected to arise in tourism and hospitality sector exclusively for women within a year.  Scholarships will be provided for the candidates enrolling for diploma courses. With the launch of these programmes, KITTS is expected to address the growing demand for trained and skilled professionals for a wide range of jobs in tourism sector, the Minister said. In this context, aircraft manufacturer Boeing sees an opportunity in the long run and is all set to step up the production of its 787 Dreamliners.
