For the first time in history, an investor from Kerala has listed his SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) on NASDAQ. McLaren Technology Acquisition Corporation, a venture of US-based Indian investor and digital transformation leader Sajan Pillai, closed its NASDAQ initial public offering (IPO) worth Rs 1,500 crore.

Apart from being the first Keralite-backed SPAC to list on NASDAQ, McLaren Strategic Ventures, an investment venture of Sajan Pillai has already made several significant investments and acquisitions in India. Sajan Pillai’s company is also the first banking and insure-tech focused SPAC of Indian origin to get listed on NASDAQ. Pillai is a global leader in the field of digital transformation.

According to a company source, “McLaren Technology Acquisition Corp was formed for the purpose of effecting mergers, asset acquisitions, stock purchases, reorganizations, or similar business combinations with one or more businesses.”  

The IPO which started trading on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol MLAIU on November 3 will prove to be the pivot for the acquisition of worthy start-ups and growth-oriented companies providing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning-based technology solutions in the banking, financial services, and insurance sector. This venture is expected to benefit Indian start-ups, which are primarily in the fin-tech segment.

According to Sajan Pillai, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Technology Acquisition Corp, “Numerous start-ups have emerged in the fintech arena with innovative ideas based on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Kerala as well other states in India.
