Will non-BJP parties finally come together? It looks like it is a yes

Non-BJP CMs seem to be keen on meeting with each other and discussing the future course of action

It looks like Chief Ministers from non-BJP parties are coming together in agreement of a single agenda that concerns the attitude of Governors appointed by the NDA government at the Centre. This may be seen in the context of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee’s call to the non-BJP parties to come together as a force against the Bharatiya Janata Party.

While Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has hinted at a convention of Opposition chief ministers will be held in Delhi soon and that it would be as part of an initiative by Mamata Banerjee, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has stated that will also hold meetings with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee soon.

Will these pave the way for a united front against the BJP is a question that will seek answers for more time. In the meantime, leaders like KCR are very keen to be part of such an alliance.

Stalin looking forward to a non-BJP CMs’ meet

M K Stalin has said that Mamata had telephoned her to share her concern and anguish on the Constitutional overstepping and brazen misuse of power by the Governors of non-BJP ruled states. And it was she who suggested a meeting of Opposition CMs, Stalin said while tweeting that he is travelling to Delhi for the meeting.

Reiterating that the DMK party is committed to upholding the autonomy of the state, he expressed hope that the convention of Opposition Chief Ministers will get underway in Delhi soon.

Meanwhile K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is getting ready to travel to Mumbai anytime soon so that he can sit with Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the further course of action. He also expressed hope that Mamata Banerjee will soon travel to Hyderabad to meet him or he would fly to Kolkata to meet her, and discuss things. Though he is not too sure about the alliance being formed, he has said that if that happens he will be playing a significant role.

A dilly-dallying Congress

The leaders in the Opposition, including KCR, Stalin and Mamata are of the opinion that the BJP is bent on destroying the country. Mamata Banerjee is at the forefront of the alliance trying to garner support from all like-minded parties across the nation. The alliance needs to happen at least before the 2024 general elections, Mamata feels.

The question whether the Congress party would also be part of the alliance doesn’t find any answer as of now.  The grand old party, with immense potential when it comes to an alliance of this sort, is still dilly dallying. No one lknows what Sonia and her kids have in their minds.
