Putin act on Ukraine doesn’t have takers at home; Russian public come together against war

Russian cities have been witnessing thousands of protesters taking to the streets against Putin’s decision for a military operation in Ukraine

Even as Russia continued with its military operation in Ukraine, the country has been seeing huge protests against the decision to go to war on the home front itself. Russian cities have been witnessing thousands of protesters taking to the streets against President Vladimir V. Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.

Though the Russian administration is unleashing a severe crackdown against protestors, the spirit of protests against the war I not willing to die down. Putin’s military operation against Ukraine had come in for major criticism from Russians themselves, as they joined the global community in condemning the military action.

Ukraine has always been a brotherly nation for the Russians and when the President Putin ordered a full-scale assault, it came about as an act that left them depressed and disappointed.

Russian cities witness massive protests

The Russian police have been trying to block protestors, but with the number of people assembling to decry Putin’s action and the subsequent war, the administration has a major headache on the home front.

Chanting ‘No to War’ slogans, thousands of protestors did not give in to the police and found themselves arrested. Activists have termed the war situation as turning the world upside down, and have called for more people to assemble so that they can let the Putin administration know that “something monstrous is happening.”

The protests inside Russia has provided some sort of a relief for the people in Ukraine, who are currently being pinned down by the Russian military excesses.  It has been reported that Ukrainian politicians and public figures have urged Russians to make known their discontent with the incursion.

No to War slogans fill Russian streets

However, many who haven’t been able to come out in protest feel they are yet to be freed of earlier anti-Kremlin demonstrations, and fear more excesses by the administration against them. There are also many who would want to credit Putin for lifting Russia from an economic downtrend. But then, even that section of the Russian public is totally against the war against Ukraine.

With many nations slapping sanctions on Russia, the people of the country know very well that life could not be same again. And they believe such a military assault on a brotherly nation was totally unwarranted. All said, the military incursion is already on, and the world is unified - well, almost -  against Russia for the insensible act.
