Lady teacher from Samba shot dead in J&K’s Kulgam

The killing of the woman, belonging to the minority community, has again stoked protests by Kashmiri Pandits while local politicians have condemned the civilian killing in unequivocal terms Unknown gunmen, suspected of being militants, shot and killed a female teacher in Gopalpora village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday. According to reports, gunmen opened fire on the lady, identified as Rajni Bala from Badri region of Jammu’s  Samba district . While being shifted for treatment to District Hospital Kulgam, she died on the way and was declared dead at the hospital. Later, security forces sealed off the entire village in an attempt to apprehend the perpetrators. However, no arrests have been made so far. Despite high cherry crop yield, low price worries famers

However, the prevalent low prices have become a cause of concern for the farmer community. According to Jahangeer Bhat, who owns a cherry orchard in Marheng village of Shopian, the production of cherry is satisfactory this year but the prices have hit a new low. ‘Little price variations make huge difference in profit margins’ “The price of 1 kg box of cherry is around Rs 90 on average. Some get Rs 93 per box while there are other farmers who got Rs 85 for the same,” Bhat said. Amid Gyanvapi row, TV panellist jailed for 'shivling' tweet in J&K

Civilians continue to be targeted in Kashmir; TV actress becomes latest victim

Ambreen Bhat, a popular television actress in the Valley, was shot outside her home in Budgam district Ambreen Bhat, a television actress, was killed and her 10-year-old nephew was shot by suspected militants in Chadoora town in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday evening, police said. According to the police, Bhat, who is known for her roles in television shows, and her nephew, Farhan Zubair, were shot outside their home in Chadoora’s Hushroo neighbourhood. Zubair is recovering from a bullet wound in his arm and is in stable condition. Ambreen Bhat had worked in various serials featured on the  DD Kashir  channel while she had also switched to YouTube a few months back to publish her videos on her channel.
